Announcing the Hayu Podcast

December 1st, 2021

Why did I wait so long to join the podcast movement?

As a host, it turns out you get to have deep dive conversations with engaging, influential people.

Guests with important and often galvanizing opinions who aren’t afraid to share their views.

Even unpopular, dangerous ideas that might make folks uncomfortable.

Who knew?

Please have a listen to the Hayu Podcast.  For our inaugural season, I spoke with a select group of storytellers about their vital work in the space of education, parenting and psychology.

I like to think of them as my very own Fab Five.

Betsy Brown Braun is a powerful, leading voice in child development and parenting education.  We talk pandemic, and she doesn’t hold back on what we can do right now to support our children more proactively--and then get out of their way.

Joe Dilley addresses the perils of parenting in the digital age with solutions for the screentime dilemma.  The tech struggle is real.  Essential listening for anyone tempted to throw their family’s devices into the nearest body of water.

Keith Harris is the rogue historian for a reason.  We talk monuments, commemoration and our own dangerous past and present in the battle over Civil War memory.  Prepare to take a side.

Rita Eichenstein reminds us we’re not acute failures as parents just because our kids struggle in unpredictable ways.  Often it’s our own expectations that need the most work.  It’s time to recalibrate.

Joe McGovern talks about his seminal road trip across our country in search of common political ground.  Who sleeps in a van in a Wal-Mart parking lot in search of universal American truths?  Fearless Joe is that kind of filmmaker.

Big gratitude to all of my guests for their time and lively participation.  Boundless thanks as well to Riley Madden, our fearless summer intern who co-produced the entire first series and edited each episode to save me from myself.

Please join our wider dialogue.  I’d love to know what you think about what you hear.

And for those who want more, here’s the good news:  we’ll be back with another season of fearless guests to wrestle with the biggest issues we face as educators, parents, and people who just want to do better.

Yours in education,

Matthew Hayutin
