• Who are your tutors and what are their credentials?


    We have a deep pool of over 125 tutors, educational specialists, and educational therapists.  All of our associates hold a bachelor’s degree and over half have a master’s degree, PhD, and/or teaching credential. Over a third of our educators have been with Hayutin for three to ten years. All associates are fully supported and closely supervised through consistent contact with directors and undergo a thorough background check.

  • My child needs a tutor. How does the placement process work?


    We first conduct an intake interview, either in person or over the phone, to get an understanding of your child’s educational support needs, hobbies and interests, and preferred days and times for sessions. Based on our discussion, we reach out to one or more associates who we sense will be a good match for your child.

    After we pair your child with an educator, we share contact and background information between you and the associate. Then the educator will call to make an introduction and confirm the first meeting time. Our office will follow up with you within 24 business hours of that first session to hear your feedback. Assuming the tutor is a match, you will make all future scheduling changes directly with that associate, and our office will then check in with you regularly to discuss your child’s progress. Further, we encourage our clients to contact us with any of their questions or concerns—we are always available to you by phone or email.

  • How many sessions per week are recommended and for how long?


    This varies widely from child to child, depending on factors like each learner’s goals and expectations, the number of subjects requiring support, the student’s learning profile, and the family’s schedule and budget. Please call us to discuss our tailored recommendations for your student. Similarly, the length of tutoring sessions varies from student to student based on individual needs. Typically, students book one or more regular weekly sessions, ranging from one to two hours each session.

  • Does Hayutin require a minimum number of sessions?


    No. We are here to assist your child as much or as little as your family requires. In order to facilitate that flexibility, our in-home tutoring clients do not commit to purchase a particular number of sessions (beyond a one-hour minimum) and you or we may terminate services at any time. There is no minimum commitment for virtual tutoring.

  • What happens if my child does not like the assigned educator?


    Chemistry between educator and student is crucial to a successful program. While we carefully consider which associate to pair with your child, we recognize that no educator is the right match for every student. In the unlikely event that the first educator is not connecting well with your child, we will gladly offer a placement with another member of our team. In the very rare case that we don’t have the right match for a given student, we make a referral to a colleague we know and trust. Ultimately, we want every student to forge a great connection with the right educator.

  • How will I be billed for your services?


    Our billing process is explained in detail in our company guidelines, which can be viewed here. We bill every two weeks for services already rendered. You pay Hayutin, then we pay our employees. While we accept and prefer credit card payment, we make exceptions for families and clients who need to pay by check.  You will be emailed a copy of your detailed paid invoice as well as your child’s session notes every two weeks.

  • What are your hours?


    Most of our associates are available to you in the afternoons, evenings and weekends. Our office staff is available Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

  • What is your cancellation policy?


    Barring unforeseeable emergencies, we enforce a strict 24-hour cancellation policy, and sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice are billed in full. Last minute scheduling changes should always be directed to your child’s assigned associate, not to office staff.

  • Are any of your services covered by my insurance?


    Please check with your prescribing doctor and insurance provider to learn which, if any, of our services might be covered by your health insurance policy. While some clients have had partial success in claiming some services for educational therapy, in our experience most educational services are not covered, despite various documented diagnoses.

  • Are you offering any in-person tutoring or services during COVID?


    The safety of your family and our employees is paramount.  In addition to offering virtual learning services, we also provide in-person support from educators fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

  • How is my child's progress monitored and how do we communicate?


    You are always encouraged to contact your child’s tutor with any questions or concerns.  Our directors are also available to you by phone and email to discuss any concerns and make adjustments to academic goals and expectations. Additionally, you will receive biweekly session notes addressing goals and progress via our automated system.

    Educational specialists and educational therapists doing intensive remedial work conduct informal baseline assessments as well as periodic skill checks to monitor progress.  Test prep students and their families receive detailed practice exam reports as well as midway progress reports with score goals.

  • Are you willing to communicate with my child's teachers, school administrators, and others?


    Absolutely. We welcome and encourage an open dialogue, but only with permission from students and their families.

  • How do I know if my child needs educational therapy or tutoring?

Together we will make the decision as to whether or not your child needs an educational therapist, specialist, or tutor based on a variety of factors, including learning profile, results from neuropsychological testing, the recommendations of your child’s school or teachers, and specific educational needs.   • Is homeschool or independent study right for my child?


    This is a very personal choice that only you can make. Call us to discuss your child’s situation, learning profile, and personality so that we can explore whether an independent study program with us might be right for your family. 

  • Should my child take the SAT or ACT? What is the difference between the two exams?


    Please call us to weigh the pros and cons of each test, especially in light of the growing number of test-optional schools. We also recommend contacting your child’s educational consultant or school counselor. Some students find that they perform better on one test or the other, while many perform similarly on both exams. We offer practice exams to help each family make an informed decision about the best course of action for every student. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to discuss how pandemic-related exceptions and disruptions may impact your family’s test prep plan.   • What is the ISEE?


    The ISEE is the entrance exam for local independent day schools. We provide one-on-one instruction for the ISEE using an individuated, custom curriculum. Please visit our ISEE page to learn more.
